The experimental results by XPS on studying the forms of organic sulfur in coal desulfurization were presentedThe binding energy of sulfur which exists in different forms were obtainedChemical forms of XPS sulfur 2P spectrum were classified by their binding energies on the basis of results of model compounds to estimate the sulfureous forms such as sulfoether,thiophene analogues and sulfur alcohol ,etc A number of thiophene analogues were existed in Donglin coal,also existed minor part of sulfur alcohol and sulfoetherAfter desulfurization by supercritical with alcohol for Donglin coal,Nantong,the organic sulfur mainly sulfur alcohol and sulfone were removedThe thiophene like and sulfoxides were the major part from Beisu caol,Yanzhou,before irradiationThe content of sulfoxides will be reduced after irradiation for desulfurization of Beisu coalThese results give further information to study the coal structure and explore new removal methods of organic sulfur in coal

A high rank coal with total sulfur of 490% was extracted employing alcohol/KOH and alcohol/water under supercritical conditions in a semicontinous reactorIt was found that supercritical desulfurization is mainly taking place within abaut 1h at 400℃When the ethanol concentration was 95 vol%the organosulfur removal achieved the maximumEthanol/KOH solution as supercritical solvent enhanced the desulfurization processUsing Mssbauer and XPS techniques the sulfur forms in solid products obtained at different reaction were analyzedThe results show that:during supercritical desulfurization the pyritic sulfur is removed as following process;FeS2FeS+Fe1-xS,the transformation amounts and the value of x are dependent on reaction conditions,especially on temperatureAmony the organic sulfur groups PhSH,Ph2S and thiolane are easily removed ;Ph2SO is more difficult to be removed,its removal may be realized by increasing temperature and adding some water into ethanol;thiophene is most difficult to be removed,its removal needs high reaction temperature
